Slip rings provide a continuous connection between coils and the external circuit (as opposed to split rings which reverses the way they are connected every half turn to ensure unidirectional current flows out of the circuit) so since the EMF induced in the coils due to relative motion between the coil and magnetic field itself constantly changes direction then by having a continuous connection it ensures the current being fed out also constantly changes direction (AC)
