i think it's about that. i remember, at UTS, it was the weighted average mark of your 13 best law subjects, and at least a pass in the Honours thesis elective. the marks are then ranked and the best person gets UM (not me )011 said:Is it WAM 75 for Class I anyway? (i dont think it varies through those unis that have it, or does it)
Is there a thesis elective for every honours in law? I've never heard of such a compulsory thing at Usyd. From what it seems to me, its just a 75 WAM across either all law subjects completed by the person (or best of X subjects).Frigid said:i think it's about that. i remember, at UTS, it was the weighted average mark of your 13 best law subjects, and at least a pass in the Honours thesis elective. the marks are then ranked and the best person gets UM (not me )
you're right. the thesis elective is a requirement of USyd LLB Hons...011 said:Is there a thesis elective for every honours in law? I've never heard of such a compulsory thing at Usyd. Honours in Law
There is no separate Honours year in Law. Honours are awarded on the basis of your weighted average marks in all law units, including those taken as part of a combined degree and any failures.

That is something to bloody well bring to the lawsoc meeting...
because, dear, a BCL at Oxford is greater than a LLM at USyd.§eraphim said:I doubt he has the power to change the degree structure like that. Anywayz, why not do a LLM at Usyd?
he may be a solicitor, but you're not even an HSC graduateGavrillo said:Awww such emoticons don't hide such harsh words.
Sorry, I just heard that from a UNSW law grad, cum Telstra HQ solicitor.
No need to be such a basterd.
Depends. Some unis intergrate that 'extra' subject into a compulsory subject so that it really isn't an 'extra' subject as such.jasee said:Oh wow, UTS Law honours only requires an extra subject, not an extra year. That's pretty good then! If it was like that for IT, I'd probably do it.
Ugh, don't remind me.... :'(santaslayer said:5 years + another year of honours is fucking fucked.
Too elitist? But that's what honours are for! The l33t!legaleagle said:For anyone interested, the Faculty of Law went through a massive debate about the proposed introduction of honours in my time at UNSW (1994-1998). All of the info re arguments for and against should be able to be accessed in the student law society's archive or the faculty's archive. Maybe ask a law librarian about it - I reckon they'd be delighted to drag that stuff out for you.
My understanding of the upshot of the debate was that for reasons to do with the history of the creation of the Law Faculty at UNSW and its (broadly speaking) egalitarian/socialist ethos, merely handing out Honours based on WAM was considered too elitist.

might as well make the whole degree pass-fail thenlegaleagle said:its (broadly speaking) egalitarian/socialist ethos, merely handing out Honours based on WAM was considered too elitist.
Oh, thou will'st pay for that one day...remind me to send you a business card when I'm on the High Court.Frigid said:he may be a solicitor, but you're not even an HSC graduate
consider this. you might not get appointed until you're 50ish.Gavrillo said:Oh, thou will'st pay for that one day...remind me to send you a business card when I'm on the High Court.
