Well these days, with mass media, and the availability for ourselves to create our own media... I think the protest is a little less attractive. What about all the people posting disenting opinion on popular blogs? What about the chaser guys that have been able to make popular film to voice their opinion?

I do agree perhaps one of the reasons they are now less popular is their stigma, but I think another important aspect is their lack of direct personal communication that can be fulfilled by other means.

there are of course many ways to voice opinion, though those media examples you give ultimately preach the converted. a protest is personal and can confront audiences that it normally wouldn't through films, blogs etc.

No one is ever going to ban abortions, but I still see alot of people bitching about it? The idea is to have debate with the other side on the issue, instead of just sitting back and not caring because you have the power.

though a letter to the SRC president is different to thousands of students seeking discussions over government policy affecting students

there is certainly stubborness on both sides but it is worth noting Nelson's position

I also love your air-tight logic that a person who proves you wrong must have no sex life. Isnt this thread about high school activism. Im just finishing Year 12 now and even though it was hard in year 12... in year 11 its really all i did, and i got better marks at the same time. We made the paper a number of times, to a point were people stop me in the street, but yeh its kinda unfortunate that opportism seems to get into a lot of other campaigns. It was good with the lot i worked in coz it was what james mentioned, decided upon as a group. Anyway the main issue we kicked a stink about was the voting age, and we were asking it to be 16, and all the pollies agreed ay... Labor, Green and Socialist (Liberal refused to attend). We also had a mock ballot at school that the school endorsed and they let us leaflet, it was a catholic school. to any dudes in year 10, here, which is unlikely there are mostly 2nd year uni opportunists, who have tall poppyseed syndrome and angry at their inability to be a high school activist whinging and moaning. High school activists stand for positions and can, with the right training and education insightfully argue about social policy better then a lot of registered voters.

Firstly I was never proven wrong.
Secondly, I didn't write that insult, but if you'd like to believe that go ahead I can see how it would support your superficial argument.

If you had read my responses before more closely, you may have noticed I try to remain as diplomatic as the person is I am replying to.
Yet, despite being slightly dissapointed in the way people on here can't substantiate their facts, and this tends to make their counter arguments simplisitic and illogical. I would never refer to these flaws being related to 'no sex life'.
