I need help with my topic
intercountry adoption
really stressed as my only first hand information will be an interview with a father who has adopted (thats all i know contact wise).
My Three topic questions are:-
1. Evaluate the process of Inter-country adoption.
2. Examine the effects of intercountry adoption on the emotional wellbeing of parents and children.
3. Describe Statergies used to help with cultural differences.

Any Help and ideas is greatly appreciated as I really am struggling.
Please post

break it down ~

1. Evaluation:
-what is involved ?
-what difficulties are there ?
-paperwork ?
-requirements of adoptive parents ?
-exceptions to these requirements eg brangelina
-is the actual process effective ?

2. Emotional wellbeing:
-child may not feel attachment to parents
-child may find it difficult to cope with new situation initially
-child finding out about being adopted
-how parents cope with reaction of ^^
-resentment + feeling as if life is incomplete ^^
-parents may feel they cannot provide love equal to what their own parents could - doubt

3. Strategies:
-learning about various cultures with child through books, internet, etc
-being open with child about their adoption and offering choice
-developing relationships with people of various cultures
-teach about anti-discrimination

when is your IRP due ?

i suggest asking around for adopted children to get their perspective as well, especially the emotional side, and whether their emotional needs were met/whether they decided to meet their real parents, and if so, why etc.
start another thread on BOS asking for anyone that can help if you cant find anyone else.

you could also look at:
-reasons why adoptive parents choose to adopt from abroad
-(if you can find info) cultures of the adoptive parents themselves
-history of adoption abroad
-services to aid adoptive parents and/or their adopted children eg support groups, govt initiatives etc

if u cant find a whole lot of information on your topic, and know that there arent many studies similar to yours, make sure to state that this study is one of the first of its kind and therefore information was difficult to collect, bla bla bla.. so if its not a 100% IRP, they'll have to sympathise.

if there's anything else i can help with, let me know :)

remember: dont hold back on mentioning well-being as many times as possible !
