Living organisms can be found over a large range of temperatures from - 40C to over 120C. This basically means that there are organisms that are capable of being found in almost all of the temperature conditions on Earth. However despite this, the large majority of living organisms and individual species can only withstand a significantly smaller range in temperature and are subssequently found in the - 2oC to 40oC range. Also, whilst many organisms may be able to survive in very extrememe temperatures, most will only be able to function optimally and reproduce within a narrower temperature range.

ps.
those organisms living in extreme temps (be it high or low) are called extremophiles - for jargon purposes - jargon = good
pps. its mainly only bacteria that can survive in the really really high temps methinks
