32a)
Step 1: Soap added
Step 2: Soap forms bonds with grease/water
Step 3: Agitated and lifted off surce + washed away with water

Obviously analyzed that in more detail, so 3/3?

Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers

For the location of the Solvay plant, what did everyone put, A or B?

Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers

LOL i was actually considering B, because A was "near" the town and the water being dumped would screw up the town. But then i looked at the scale. And i told my self nup.

Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers

Haha. What do you think about my 32a?
Yeah I think that should be full marks considering you analysed in more detail.

Did you mention the structure of soap (head and tail) which allows for micelle formation?

Yes same! Was so confused about whether ammonia leakages would be a problem since A was closer to the town.

I mentioned how the non polar tail binds with grease due to dispersion forces? and it's hydrophobic while the head is hydrophilic and polar forming ion-dipole interactions with water. I'm so tired atm cbf typing all that complicated stuff :(

Also, I said the plant is located at A because it can market it's stuff to the town
Obviously said CaCl2 can be disposed easily, water can be used as a coolant etc

In the end i put like a summary that:
A is closer to the ocean, so wastes can be easily disposed of.
It is closer to the town and the Na2CO3 market
And finally, I wrote that possibly there are other industries nearby (such as petroleum or natural gas and/or ammonia plants), because they'd also want to be near the city for their markets and hence the different industries could integrate.

I think we also had to mention the railway providing easy transport of limestone to the plant. Didn't mention it though -.-

I guess you could. For me it felt like a disadvantage because it was so far away. It was like a winding track of like 300km of rail. If you do mention that, as long as you provide a reason it should be treated as correct.

Re: Your Inudstrial Chem answers

But that's stupid though :(
Idk why but I just think it was important in showing why A was preferable over B and that the advantages of B (limestone) were not only limited to B (transport using train).

I could be wrong. I hope I am lol..
