I was thinking I could still balance a job and sport with school in year 11 by only working on Sundays and maybe 1 weekday a week.
Or is the study such a big step up from year 10 that there’s not enough time to work?

I didn't work at all in those years tbh. It can get distracting.

I got a job in year 11 and I'm in year 12 now. It hasn't been too bad but there definitely are times where I regret it (around Christmas time/any major holiday I get called into work nearly every day). Personally I would recommend you don't get a job right now and enjoy life before you have to work and pay taxes😅 but seriously you have your whole life to work, enjoy high school as much as you can tbh!

I have a job, and its not necessarily impacting my studies, plus it would look good on your resume. I say just work for one day in the week, only 3 hours if possible since an 8 hour shift would be exhausting. Also cutting out everything in year 11 would just lead to burn out so don't do that.

i had a job in y11/12 and did fine, if your work is flexible you can take time off around trials and the hsc and you’ll be fine. imo the reality is no one is actually studying every hour of the day (if you are you’re being inefficient), there is usually enough time to fit in work and sport etc without sacrificing study

brah I averaged 25 weekly work hours, had 6, 2 hour gym sessions per week and had enough time for leisure while studying the asian 5 subjects
Spread your study out, be efficient with how you learn (if you don't understand something, move on, look back on it the following day)
From what I've experienced, your head learns passively in the background so it's better to let it simmer on hard concepts/problems while you do other things

I work at one of the biggest hospitals in Australia ( food services assistant ) and I have set my availability to only the weekend and I only work 5pm-8pm so I didn't think it would be that big of a deal but maybe it is. I do not want to quit at all, I love this job and its very good pay for someone our age. Is this bad?

Keep the job man, 5-8pm on weekends is nothing and the experience at working there will really be helpful to you in the future
imho, I would've had an extremely hard time making friends in uni if I hadn't learnt the soft skills from work

yeah I think that's fine ☺ It just depends on how much ur willing to work for ur goals...if it means scarfice, which I took, then it means scarfice. All this can come later in uni...If you love ur job tho don't leave it, its barely a few hours

If you want to excel in Year 11 and 12, you definitely need to manage your time efficiently.
I typically work both days on the weekends, starting at 6am or 7am and ending at 12pm, so a relatively easy shift.

You can definitely have a job like others have said, but if you are not capable of using your time effectively, you will burn out, or you will just not go well and end up having a bad atar.

thank you! I mean if I quit this job, it would quite the bummer considering i got this job at 16 years old when hospital jobs are always 18+ and pays more than any of my friends. Also we're quite short staffed so if any of y'all are looking for a job in NSW healthshare hmu. I do want to do really well in both prelims and HSC, I really need to find a better study routine.

hmm yes def you should be tot fine with this job, its not even that long. As long as you keep consistent with your work, and don't burn out due to the work hours. Regarding ur schedule have you thought about waking before school doing 1-2 hours, then doing school, having an hour break after then working till dinner? that's how most people do it, but since I'm not a morning guy I just use those 3 hours b4 school after dinner ☺

i might try that, i can do morning but as of rn i get up at 8 and leave at 20 past and school starts at half past but my roll call teacher doesnt mind what time i get there as long as its during roll call. And yes ill use the rest of the hours after school, thank you.

defineitly, if u r moving out, consider a small apartment to rent, nothing to extravegent, cause most likely u will have a ton of debt from uni

yeah I feel like people underestimate how much soft skills from work make a difference especially with stuff like retail
