conics wereprobably amongst the hardest stuff, given the expressions we derived and used were atrocious.

In order of most to least difficult:

1. Conics --> even though this year's CSSA Conics was relatively easy
2. Harder MX1 --> particularly probability and circle geo.
3. Complex Numbers --> I hate that vector stuff
4. Mechanics --> I've only done resisted motion though
5. Polynomials
6. Volumes
7. Graphs --> hard to say between this and Integration
8. Integration

Mechanics, only the circular motion stuff though, that is just cruel, I hate that stuff, it's annoying. Hmm, part from that the 'harder' 3U topics can be nasty too. Of course random stuff like proving the irrationality of e, etc. isn't nice either.

harder 3u ---- mostly inequalities, induction, probability ---- circles i can usually deal with

and then mechanics ---- i didnt do physics and never really liked its aspects that we were taught in yr 10.. for me in mechanics.. prolli circular motion/banked tracks/conical pendulums etc are hardest for me

You need no physics knowledge to do mechanics. As long as you are aware of the forces on an object, then you should be fine.

Stop making that up as an excuse for yourself, you won't do well that way. Keep a positive attitude.

thats the thing, i was never aware of the 'forces' to begin with, and teacher sped through because whole class cept for me done physics.. now i understand the forces, but i still find the circular motion bit of mechanics hard

what's wrong with conics?

why do so many people hate it?

there is only really like 20 different questions they can ask you. Sure they can have different ones and very weird ones but they are really to just scare you, they are almost the same as the 20 normal ones.

The only hard ones would be where it has 2 different angles for P and Q and it asks for the chord or something. I havn't seen that in the last 10 hsc exams, only catholic trials.

now circle geometry *cries* that is so annoying in an exam, especially when you can't find it and you worry cause its like 6 marks.

Well, conics questions in CSSA papers are definitely annoying. The 2005 Conics question wasn't too difficult though, which was surprising. I haven't really looked at past HSC conics questions, but if they're anything like the ones in CSSA papers, then :(

hehehe yea, its like either you see it or you don't, there is no way around it

it gets really frustrating at times, when you sort of see it, and you know what you need, but you can't just put pen to paper ><

Usually when I'm stuck on circle geo. I just jot down some working anyway. Even if you only have a vague idea of what to do, you should just write some working down, especially if the question is worth 4+ marks...you'd probably still get 2 or maybe even 3 marks if you're working was correct and on track.

uh huh', i've done that before, usually i figure it out, and end up fixing it in the end, which is good, but for cssa trial circle geo.. i only figured out the second part to it, moments before time was up, and couldn't do part three.. so disappointed!

Circle geo is a bit of a no-brainer though. There's only a certain amount of properties.

Perhaps for HSC circle geometry. But some non-HSC qs can be truly nasty...

I maintain conics is hardest because it's such a specialised topic that requires practice, practice nobody can be bothered doing due to the extremely dull nature of the topic.

Vectors in Complex Numbers, urgh i'll never understand them, conics is how ya goin, then i guess integration, volumes, are easy enough but we haven't done mechanics or harder Ext 1 yet haha. I'm so screwed.

30 lines of algebra bashing?
never experienced that in a conics question....

i hope there is no CG in Q8

Often when you end up with 30 lines of working and you still don't have the answer, you're off the track especially when the question's worth ~2 marks.
