The figure below shows a rectangle 15 cm by 6 cm. The area of Triangle A
is 4 cm2 and the area of Triangle B is 16 cm2.

What is the area of Rectangle C?

This is a test, I am not responsible for any stress caused by this question. This is a test of faith. Do you have faith in you're self or in maths..........

GOOD LUCK !!!!.. This is actually from an exam paper. I didn't make this up.

EDIT: Think about it very carefully, the answer might shock you !!!!

If you claim that PQRS is 15 by 6 then something is wrong.

coz i just proved conguency in triangles QUX and QVX
then found the area of QRS which i found to be 45
then subtracted triangle A and triangle B away from it??:uhoh:

You sure your diagram is right?? I can't get the answer right. I got the all the ratios and everything right. But it is just not right...

I got 20 as my answer by the way... according to my working out but it doesn't satisfy that A = 4 and B =16....

You're bright =).. you got 1 tick from me, you said it doesn't match with 4 and 16.. have you thought about what might be the lengths of the sides .....

That's totally opposite of what I really am. I rarely use calculator. It slows me down when I am working out. I can easily to xx times xx or xx divided by xx. I am used to calculating without calculator.

I wish they give me questions where I don't need to use calculator.

That's pretty complicated working out, actually. Thanks for the answer by the way, it was cool and cleared up all my doubt.

I go to St Piux X College (SPX), the best school on the north shore. Teachers are great, students are great and it's pretty academic as well.

I didn't bring a calculator into the 4unit HSC external exam. :)

Didn't end up needing one either. Such is the nature of 4unit.
