July 1 sees the introduction of Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU), however good news for Macquarie students…

SAM is delighted to announce that for the remainder of 2006, you will not be required to pay a fee for being a SAM Card Holder. More news to follow shortly ……
And there it is, ladies and gentlemen, the annual SAM communique to students.

"You have to pay, or we'll umm...confiscate your card"... wasn't really gonna work.

Note the expiry date on SAM cards is 12/06... seems they had the intentions of doing this since whenever they made the decision (not that there's any logical alternative), even prior to the EFS donation.

(Not that this fact should take anything away from this thread)

is this meant to be an incentive to pay our fees next year?

Could be, but it could also be just a generally good gesture.

i'm skeptical, maybe (wth took me 5 tries to type the 'be' of maybe) they just printed the cards with the wrong expiry date... but i think it's most likely that it was easier for them to issue them to everyone for a year and they thought why not.

I wont be paying for SAM next year. I dont feel I get $180 worth of discounts to justify its use. You'd have to buy a lot of SAM stuff, with their pitiful 5 - 20 cent discount to get your money back

In fact, I havent met one person yet who said they will be paying their SAF's.
