Hey im really struggling to know whether to have a gap year or not, but i need to know really soon for job applications. Your advice please....

CASE FOR A GAP YEAR:
- earn and save money
- get name out into workforce
- turn 18 (im not 18 till August 09) :(
- have a break from school
- not have to be a tight ass at uni and have more fun (more money to spend)
- might get to travel
- ensure that i get Aus-Study

CASE AGAINST GAP YEAR:
- might lose routine of study
- takes longer to finish degree
- have to work full time if i have a gap year which im not sure if id like
- maybe lose contacts with friends who have started uni
- could always just go part time

Both good cases :(
all advice is welcome!

Thankyou

I'm the same age - not 18 till June 09.
I'm taking a gap year, and while I might lose study routine, after I'm enrolled and have deferred I'm locked in to go to uni in 2010 regardless.
Because we're a year young I see it as we can afford to take a year off.
I just want a year of brain-dead money earning to give me a break from the last 13 years.

My sisters are both uni students who didnt take the gap year and are both striving to ensure I do.

Do it.

I was 18 when school finished but went on a gap year to europe - no way in hell i could have gone straight into uni

and even though im finishing my degree a year later than many of my friends we kept in contact and still go pubbing etc regularly!

I reccomend it - I know that i would have ended up deferring 2nd year anyway because I just wouldnt have been able to cope - i know about 10 people that did that by the end of 1st year uni they were fried and just wanted time to relax and take it easy - deferred for a year, worked 4 days a week until july then travelled Europe, Asia and US...they loved it!

my reccomendation is do it :)
