Full time/ Part time degrees (1 Viewer)

Hey people,

Just having a look at some of the degrees, i.e. Applied Fiance & Economics, it says 4 yrs Full time/Part time, so does that mean the degree can be finished within 4 yrs studying full time and/or part time?

If so, how can it be completed within the same time as full time (4 years)? More workload and less lectures?

You have understood this wrong (if only it was right! )

4 years full time means: For 8 semesters you study 4 subjects each semester.
The /part time just means, you can complete this degree as a part time student, meaning: 16 semesters of study with 2 units each semester.

Of course with summer courses, 3 subjects per semester and switching between full time and part time it doesn't necessarily mean you'll finish in precisely 3 years or exactly 8 years or whatever. I myself am part time, but because of Summer courses and also doing 3 subjects a semester on occasion my degree will take around 4.5-5 years rather than 6

No. If you were doing a degree which takes 4 years full time it will take 8 (assuming you're taking a full 4 units per sem) years to complete. If it is 3 in FT then it will be 6 in PT. Of course, you can always do summer units (session 3) to speed it up.

Is it possible to do a degree part time 1st year then full time afterwards, i.e. with the finance/ economics double degree?

Indeed you can, you just enrol in an extra unit or two and that moves you to full time.

Be aware though, part time students don't get transport concession so you have to pay the full adult fare. Switching between part time and full time gets frustrating as you have to re-apply each time you move from part to full time.

if you're not feeling particularly scrupulous... every semester enrol as a full time student and collect your concession. Drop the units you never intended to take before the census date. Be a part time student with concession.
