He's had his punishment. He's spent ages in prison for it, and now has a terrible reputation in the Australian community. He is taunted on an almost daily basis by passers-by on the street. He's had his whole life screwed up and you still won't give him a break?

I mean, the guy's so old he's going to go soon anyway. Let him live the last years of his life in peace. Stay away from him and he'll stay away from you.

Then again, one can question his true compassion and turning over a new leaf from his past record.... If all these tears are playacting then too hell with mercy. But for now I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
