I didn't get an insane ATAR like most people on this forum. I got 93.95. I'm from a school that was ranked at around 584th.
During the school year I wrote notes when I felt like doing so. I should have made them consistently over the year because I didn't even finish my IPT notes (and thus didn't really study the final topic very much) before the exam (still got 93 though). I just did all my homework. Didn't do extra study other than notes. Also important to mention is that I was school captain/SRC president and had 13 units, so I had a pretty big work load at times.
In the lead up to HSC, my Dad passed away and that really threw me out of everything for a while. I just couldn't study and forgot everything. After that, I studied about 5-6 hours a day in the 4 weeks before exams. I would wake up at 7am, start studying at 8am till 11am. I'd then go outside to trick (youtube tricking if you have to. This was my main outlet/exercise) or I'd drive to town and have lunch with friends (usually Subway rather than McDonalds). I'd then resume studying at whatever time to make sure I got an extra 3 hours or so in. I went to bed at 10pm-11pm most of the time I believe.
So yeah, in the end I got two band 6's (Mathematics and IPT), the rest band 5's + Band E3 and an ATAR of 93.95. I was also Dux of the school both internally and externally.
