And yes, Usyd does offer an MCom (Quant Finance) major. Currently leaning towards university of sydney, but I'm having a hard time justifying why

Mate that just looks like a watered down version of UNSW's masters in fin maths. It's only 5 subjects long and is a major within the MComm. I don't have the authority to say which courses are better than others, but I can say with near certainty that doing the quant fin major in usyd' Mcomm wouldn't be one of the better options.

If you can do an honours/PhD just do that (respected + you can access the Master's material anyway). Failing that, the UTS/UNSW degree.

If your marks are good you should absolutely consider applying to US universities. It is entirely feasible to get a scholarship that covers tuition and possibly more. No Australian university comes even remotely close to the US top 20. Grad school model is also much better and might help you fix some of the holes in your education.


If you applying in Australia, apply for a PhD right away. Upgrading / getting scholarship carried over can be a major gamble.

It's very hard to get a scholarship to a specific Masters in financial maths or anything finance related.
