Feeling like you did horrible in an essay? (1 Viewer)

So, I know that it was only just today that I finished my Modern HSC style essay question. It is part of our assessment and the other part is doing a speech.

However, I genuinely feel that I performed my worst in this essay, and I have a feeling my marks will not be too good. I know I will pass though, however I am thinking high 70's. I could be too harsh on myself maybe, but I really feel horrible.

I am trying to not think about it too much and just think well, it is over now, I can't do anything about it. However, if one does quite poorly in one assessment, please can I feel the reassurance that it will not affect you so much overall?

I mean so far I am happy with all my results in assessments so I am hoping if I do bad in one it won't be too detrimental.

Thanks.

^ Thanks for the quote!

And the test was an in class. Part a was a short answer type (An 'Outline' question) and Part b an essay response.

+1

even if you end up not getting the mark you wanted, at least let that motivate you to work harder next time and learn from your mistakes. It's not too late!

good luck :)

I hope it's not too late, just wondering if it will impact a lot on my final marks?

Thanks for the advice. :)

It depends on the weighting. But don't let that pull you down too much, many people have improved their rankings DRAMATICALLY during the later half of year 12 and even in the trials. Your essay is already due, don't hang on to the past too long and focus on what YOU can control right now, which are your next future assessments.

The way you handle disappointments like this is a good indicator of how you will perform later in the year. If you find that you can't reconcile yourself to admitting that it is in the past, then it may get to your head. Make sure that you identify what went wrong this time, and ensure you don't do it again next time. Moaning about it won't solve anything, and the chances of you stuffing up again won't be too remote.

As tl19 said, it ultimately comes down to weighting but in the long-term, how you bounce back from an upset.

my personal story- screwed up my first hsc assessment for english which was worth 25%. got over it and said i will work harder for next assessment. and i worked my butt off. end up getting a shitty mark and the people who fluked the essay got higher marks than me. now i am in the bottom 20 for english. true story, and i am in the same boat similar as u. im feeling hopeless and i cant even rely on my trials because i honestly did so much damage to my ranks i dont think i will get it up.

I thought I got about a 5/15 for my 2nd task. But ended up with average 11/15. :) Teachers understand a student's stress level. So don't panic like I.

Thanks guys.

Well, the assessment is worth 20% and I still have the speech to do on Monday too which is the first part. I think in terms of today's assessment, I did not prepare for it as much as I could have and needed to start a little earlier like I usually do. I mean I shouldn't worry too much however I have a bad feeling nonetheless. I don't exactly know why I didn't start earlier for this one however I think it was due to preparing for other assessments and being scared to start this one, including some procrastination.

So at least I still have my trials and HSC, yet that is worth more so I will need to prepare much better.

I feel exactly the same way as you. "Why didn't I start earlier?" But you and I must move on or we will be saying "why didn't we start earlier again" on our next assessment. Let's do this.

I agree that is a fantastic quote. I absolutely hate the feeling you get after doing an essay or any exam and feeling that you did not do your best :(

Don't worry, I did terribly in my last 2 English assessments. The worst part about it was that I tried so hard.
I don't have a story about any miracle, I'm simply stating what happened. What I am telling you is that I'm going to put as much effort as I can into these later assessments and that I will have a breakthrough later. I'm sure you will as well. Breakthroughs happen quite a fair bit, especially when you think you've got nothing left.
