I've never read the book Gone With the Wind, but we watched the movie in modern history, and our class collectively decided that none of us would have any second thoughts about pusdhing that woman and her whiney voice down a flight of stairs.
Well, you obviously missed the point of her character in that film. I would say that's probably my favourite female character in film: she is amazingly complex. Ripley is also up there.

But we're talking literature here, and I'm going to have to conform and go Atticus Finch like so many other people here. I hope to be as good a father as he someday.

I was gonna say the same. I absolutely fell in love with atticus finch. He's such a legend. I love him (yeah i know he's not real). And sirius black. He's a child but an authoritative figure at the same time. He made the books worth reading.

Having recently read The Red and the Black, (The Read and the Black? :D) Julien Sorel must be up there for 'Best Character'. Brilliantly depicted.

Are we talking in general or from a certain book that you haven't mentioned?

My fave character in general is Marius from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.

My god he's my favourite character too!! He's so mysterious, and feeling. But, I have to say, I do like Armand alot too....
