hmmm, probably Ronan Bennett, wrote The Catastrophist, a self-refecting piece of writing about his fictional avatar being a writer and a journalist in the belgian congo during revolution, and how he struggles to find himself and still hold on to his love, Ines, who herself a reporter, is caught up in the revolution. bit like my life. lol, excellent reading however.

Tim Winton has a great concise way of writing that really appeals when I want to read a short book but get a lot out of it.

I think he is the most effective writer in terms of words - per story conveyed.

So for the moment I say him. (Ironically in a long winded way).

They're pretty much my top three at the moment.

I really dislike a lot of the popular Australian fiction. Tim Winton, Peter Carey and Bryce Courtenay are all rather vomit-inducing IMO.
