Exact Answers vs Decimals (1 Viewer)

If you get an answer which is a log to the base e of something, or has a log e in it somewhere, is it best to leave it in exact form or state it's decimal approximation? And if so to how many places?

And would you have marks deducted if you do both?

imo exact answer is better...but you wouldn't have marks deducted for putting both

I tend to have the exact answer and then have approximately decimal to some amount of decimal places.. like do the equals sign but with wiggly lines instead of straight lines.. cause that means approximately.. lol S:

always exact answer...unless its not exact (like multiples of pi)

ie avoid using the calculator to do irrational parts of an equation: do the rational part, then add in the irrational part with ur brain if u can

IF u get a decimal, i would avoid the idea of the squiggly lines. i'd just write down the answer like: 43.24 (2d.p.) or 43.2536 (4d.p.) depending on the nature of the question.

mostly, 2d.p., but radian measure is 4dp (although if u can, leave it in multiples of pi, eg 5pi/3)
