Hey everyone!

Since everyone seems to be asking... and I'm really lost at the moment as far as UAI's are concerned, I'd thought I'd ask: what sort of UAI can I hope for with my current marks/ranks?

I'm in a really small poorly ranked private school with the following ranks/marks:

Advanced English: 85% 1/5
IPT: 93% 1/12
Mathematics: 94% 1/6
Mathematics Extension 1: 90% 1/3
Physics: 90% 1/4
Studies of Religion: 100% 1/20

I'm aiming for high 90's (current SAM calculation is around 98), but at the very least 95. Is that at all possible?

If you're coming first in every subject (which it seems you are) and you ace the HSC exams(90+ or high band 5s), you'll get 95+ no problems.

Does the number of students in your year affect the 'potency' of your rank?

As in, is coming 1/40 worth more than coming 1/5 ?

No.

Just make sure you're coming first in all your subjects. Then make sure you do very well in the external examination. And you will do fine.

Also, with your current marks and rankings it is very good and you're well on your way to get a UAI >95.

Thanks, that gives me just a little more confidence.

What about 99 though?

You really can't put it down to that high because we aren't sure how the scaling will work. You can only get a rough estimation.

Nor do we really know how well you're going to do in the HSC exams.

Assuming you get band 6 for every single subject, you should definitely get 96+.
The ranking of your school may affect your UAI also. What school do you go to?

How do you mean the ranking may affect your UAI?
That is incorrect.

True. Only time the person's school comes into consideration should be when the person is not coming first in a school and asks for a UAI prediction based on internal marks. So it doesnt apply for this person.

I mean like... If your school is rank 300, then obviously the competition is going to be much lower at that school. If it's so much easier at that school, then it's easier to get top grades. That way, getting top grades might not necessarily guarantee a high percentile rank in the HSC also.

Yea but we can't make that assumption. That assumption can be made if this person is not coming first.

Eg This person may be the Dux of Ruse but switched school due to private issues. Ie, he/she is going to get UAI 100 despite the school being ranked say 600.

We cant make such assumptions when the rank of the person is ONE.
