Are critical interpretations essential for a good mark in Module B for the HSC?
Or is your own response all that matters and acknowledging there are many interpretations?

They aren't essential, and you should only use them if they back up what you are trying to say about your text. YOUR interpretation is what they want - and if you can show evidence that other readings justify it, use it. However, it's not necessary. People often fall into the trap of talking more about the readings than the texts themselves.
