i was wondering what kind of questions they could give us for an essay
our teacher gave us 'the journey is better than the arrival', something like that.

Well, there are a variety of questions they can ask. For Physical journeys is like a metagenre, really really broad, but still it revolves around some basic ideas.

Here are some questions, hope they help ^^

"How does Skrzynecki's poem assist the reader's understanding of the varying immigigratn points of view on journeying back home?"

This following question was kinda a tipoff well, from a good teacher i know.

"A journey is more than just movement from one place to another. It is about learning and growth." What have you learnt about the importance of journeys from your study of physical journeys. In your response you must refer closely to your set core (prescribed) text and ONE other text from EITHER the stimulus booklet OR a related text of your own choosing.

The generic question (which you should be able to answer) is "How is the notion of Journeys reflected in your prescribed/stimulus/related texts?" (have at least two related texts prepared)

I had collected a whole bunch of Inner Journeys ones, I'll post them once I find the courage to dig into my HSC stack. It's all jam-packed and oh-so-burnable at the moment... :p

Just a couple for u - both creative (Section II) and the essay (Section III)

· Family, culture and the passage of time feature heavily in Skrzynecki’s poems. Evaluate how effectively these core issues depict the focus area, ‘physical journeys’. You must refer to TWO Skrzynecki poems, ONE text from the Stimulus booklet, and variety of other related texts

· From the study of Skrzynecki’s poems discuss what you as a responder have come to understand about ‘physical journeys’. Refer to THREE Skrzynecki poems, One Stimulus and other related

· Journeys are an important dynamic in human lives. Assess the accuracy of this statement. In your response refer to TWO Skrzynecki poems, One Stimulus and other related

· Imagine you moved to Australia 30 years ago as an immigrant and as an Advertising Executive, you are responsible for designing a pamphlet for migrants helping them to adjust to the change as a result of their journey and the impact this will have upon them

· You have been listening to a documentary “Journeys into the Unknown” on ABC radio. Write a letter to a friend explaining what you have learnt about the impact of the journey on people’s lives

· In what ways have the texts you have studied this term affected your understanding of the impact of the physical journey. Refer to TWO Skrzynecki poems, One Stimulus and other related

· 2004 HSC – A selection of students’ imaginative writing will be included on the 2005 HSC edition of the CD-Rom ‘The Journey’
Compose a piece of writing to contribute to ONE of these sections
- Journeys in Time; Journeys of the Heart; Journeys across Landscapes

Discuss this statement, focusing on how composers of texts represent the concept of the journey.
Refer to your prescribed text, ONE text from Stimulus and other related text

· You have been asked to submit a story in a school magazine in response to the following quote from John Steinbeck the famous novelist
“A Journey is a person in itself, no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policies and coercion are fruitless. We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip, a trip takes us”
Write the story that you would submit

· How have the texts you have studied this year effetely shaped your understanding of the varied types of journeys that exist and how they can have an impact on peoples lives

· ‘Physical Journeys involve movement to new places’ – How do the texts that you have studied represent this process

· ‘Physical journeys provide opportunities for travelers to extend themselves’ – How do the texts that you have studied demonstrated the ways journeys can assist the development or growth of the traveler

· How have the texts you have studied caused you to rethink your ideas about the journey

· ‘Physical journeys can affect the individual in many different ways’ – How have the texts that you have studied conveyed the impact of the journey

· ‘Individuals on a journey learn more about themselves and the world around them’ – Discuss how the text(s) you have studied represent the ways a journey may help to educate an individual

· How do individuals strive to overcome obstacles on Physical journeys – Consider the ways in which your text communicate such ideas to the responder

· How do the texts you have studied demonstrate how Physical journeys assist individuals to develop their self knowledge

· ‘Physical journeys bring about change for good and for the worse’ – Consider the ways in which your text communicate such ideas to the responder

· ‘Journeys have impacts both in the short term and over extended periods of time’ - Consider the ways in which your text communicate such ideas to the responder

· A journey is like a marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it
Use this statement as the basis for a piece of creative writing
You may write in any form you choose

· Write a feature article for an online magazine aimed at the under 25 market which explores the following quotation
“Let me recommend the best medicine in the world: a long journey, at a mild season, through a pleasant country, in easy stages”

· The school magazine committee has asked students to submit stories on the concept of the journey. Compose a story for the magazine. Use one of the following as the basis for your story
a) “The soul of a journey is liberty, perfect liberty, to think, feel, do just as one pleases”
b) “As the Italians say, Good company in a journey makes the way to seem the shorter”
c) “The best journeys lead us to see ourselves more clearly”

· Composer a speech for a year 12 speech night in which your speaker explores the idea that a journey brings about a range of changes to the traveler and those around them. The speaker should use anecdotes and examples to illustrate their ideas

· Compose an interview for a radio program on a national youth network in which a host explores the following quotation with two guests
“The real meaning of a journey, like that of a conversation by the fireside, is the discovery of oneself through contact with the new and the strange”

· “One approaches the journeys end. But the end is a goal, not a catastrophe”
Compose a response in which you explore the way individual respond to the challenges they might encounter on a journey – the choice of form is up to you
