I know its all about about quality, not quantity and all that.

But I still need a guideline. Approx how many words do you need to write for the journey, ModA, ModB and ModC essays? and the creative writing, what is the average word count. not how many pages, unless it is how many words per HSC written page ? i just dont understand how much 6 HSC pages are.

thanks =]

strictly based on the time allowed in the hsc exam, you should have around 1600 for your final draft.

40 mins should net you about 4.5-6 pages.

our teachers said we should fill 8 pages of the hsc booklets in 40 mins.

my eng ext teachersuggested that while we a studying to sticky tape a AA battery to the pen (thus making it heavier) therefore when ur in the exam the pen will seem uber light so u can write faster.

^ yea, i heard that's a good way of making you go faster...
english teacher told us that we should be writing at least 1000 words within 40 min time frame, so that'd be about 4 normal a4 pages? yea. but like hollyy said above, about 8 pages of hsc booklets is a pretty good average for 40 min.

pages vary depending on the size of your writing. you should be able to do 300 words in 10 minutes. in the HSC you'll have around 1hr on each essay, so that gives you a bit of an idea on how much you should write

1600 for 40 minutes in the exam, or do you mean 1600 for the final draft that you'll adapt to the Q? If you mean the former, that's bs.

My max is pretty much 1000-1100 words.

I need to write a bit faster. 1200 is a good length. Teacher expects 1400. Not going to happen, no matter how much I try.

Mine too. Even so, they are usually 900-1000. Woah, you teacher expects 1400 for 40 mins?

write as much as you can, because at the end of the day there is no point having these vague guidelines, when you know you have the capability do do better, or it's out of your league.

also, on the boardofstudies web page, they said that markers look for quality!!!! not quantity.
even if you write 10 pages of nonsense, and you have no thesis and you are not clear in your approach and argument, you will not get the mark.
at the end of the day, you can only do your best. so don't bother with these trivial matters. good luck btw.

4 solid pages addressing the question is better than 232356346 pages that have been memorised and plunked down. So just try to fill at least one booklet. I usually write about 5 pages, even though I only use 1 page of the second booklet I feel better for using two. :D

Exactly. Don't memorise stuff. Just know your stuff and answer the darn question.

Eh, I reckon if you have a half-memorised essay structure it will flow better. Then you just adapt that essay to the question.

When I'm in an exam, I always have the question in front of me, even though I know what I'm trying to say off by heart, and glance at it every now and then, this reminds me that I should also be answering it as well as addressing the syllabus points in the module.

Should be looking at 1000? 1100? In 40 minutes. I try for 1200 if I'm prepared, these trials I just did I was most certainly not.

As m'good friend veloc1ty said, 4 pages of quality IS better than doing more. Remember though, don't go for really short quality writing (like under 3-4 pages) because no matter how brilliant it is, if you limit yourself to less than 900 words you are lessening the potential to hit the question and module and detail where you need to.
