Indeed, I'm not sure what's the difference between choosing like maths or higher maths!?
Or... scaling???

there was something like:

"if you get between 150-200 when you combine your 3u mark and 4 u mark, then you should do higher maths"

if you get get between 100-150 when you combine your 2u mark and your 3u maths mark, you should probably do the normal math course.

btw, this was only SOMETHING like what it was like. don't quote me on the figures, it was a whole year ago they told me this, so i can't remember. speak to someone who does the maths enquiries, and they'll give you the exact ranges they suggest for the subjects you should take.

(that was badly explained, but i hope you get sort of what i mean ;) )

The higher maths learn a few extra topics, and also more challenging questions from the standard stuff.

The exam is like this, the first 4 questions (1-4) are common to maths and higher maths. The last two questions (5 & 6) are different for normal maths and higher maths, the higher maths Q5 & Q6 contain extension topics as well as harder applications of the standard topics, and for normal maths Q5 and Q6 are just similar to Q1-4. That's the only difference between higher & normal maths.

If you're eligible to do higher maths then I highly recommend you take it up, you get scaled up for it, just like you get scaled up for doing 4U in the HSC (maybe not quite as much, but higher is also more interesting/challenging).

mining i thought was my 2nd pref.. but apparently it was my 4th. i'm kicking myself over that now..
mining would be heaps good though.. the diversity of different studies of engineering -- don't mind me.. i studied eng in high school and i deeply loved it
i only found out about mining during advisory day.. i was planning to do civil... well i am doing civil but at uts... there is nobody doing civil.. from here!!! they are more.. electrical engineering... all well

haha don't expect too much, 8 of us were already too many if this year only have very few people doing this course! (As I thought... maybe 50? or 100?)
