okay, so i understand that this is going to sound completely ridiculous, but i am having trouble precisely understanding what a value actually is.

i have to hand in an english extension speech tomorrow, and i haven't written one. this is the question:

how do the composers of these texts reflect and try to shape values?

the text that we are studying is the film gosford park, plus a selected text (i'm doing the color purple)

okay please clarify this for me, becuase i have been having an argument in my mind about this for that past 2 days. what is a value? it's a belief or principle that the composer expresses, correct?

for (a really poor) example: altman promotes equality by exposing the irrationality of a wealthy upper class' dependency on the servant class.

is the value specifically 'the irrationality of a wealthy upper class' dependency on the servant class' or is it the broader 'equality'

I believe that the value would be "equality". You have just elaborated on this value and said why it relates to your text. :)

And yeah, a value is a belief or principle that the composer expresses.

Hope that helps!
