What is the major work for this extension 2 and is it based solely outside school with no classes
or do they have classes during special times?
Im considering doing it as I love English and we were told to start thinking about this now. Do you find extension 2 worth while?
Any details of the subject you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.

Quote from Board of Studies:
This module requires students to work independently to plan and complete a Major Work in
the form of an extended composition. It allows students to select an area of personal
interest from their specialised study of English and develop their work in this area to a level
of distinction.
The major work is a text that you have to write throughout year 12. It can be any text type of your choosing.
There will be classes which you will need to attend.
If you think that you would enjoy it, and would do well in it, then it would be worthwhile.

That sounds really interesting.
However how long do students usually make their major work? 40 pages etc?
Sorry for all the questions

There are classes. Mine are once a week after school for 2 hours, but some schools may differ in their approach. Any of the mediums will be rewarded with a good mark if you put in the time to research, plan, and to consult with teachers/mentors (not just your ext 2 supervisor). Reading extensively on your chosen topic/form/idea is essential and will obviously create the difference between an E3 and an E4.

Did you find it hard putting in the effort to create the piece of work? Also did you find you needed really great English skills eg top of the class to perform well or the effort was just needed?

Extension 2 English by far is the BEST subject! It's not as restrictive as other English courses, and allows you to explore areas of your personal interest!
I'm also undertaking the Extension 2 English course, and so far it has been a fun experience for me. However, the challenge is that you must have a concret and original idea!
I'm composing a critical response (critique) on Representations of Masculinity! It's kinda fun:)

I also have regular sessions with my Extension 2 English teacher after school for 2 hrs! I would recommend to anyone who has a genuine interest and passion in Literature! I mean, your not just restricted to composing essays and creative pieces, but you are also allowed to experiment with and compose using other forms of media to communicate your idea, e.g. film:)

47/50.

I had classes only for one term where we would write on the spot and my teacher would give us pointers. After the new year though, it was only consultations every month or so.

But yes, read widely and DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Did you find it hard putting in the effort to create the piece of work? Also did you find you needed really great English skills eg top of the class to perform well or the effort was just needed?
Well, if you like English and are good at it - you should do Extension 2 English. You have an entire year to make the work, so really... finding time and effort to put into the project should not be very hard.

Of course you have to be good at English to take Extension 2.

English Extension 2 is really worth considering :)
Basically you have a year or slightly less to compose a major work, but it can be a film, radio drama, speech, suite of poems, essay or short story/stories as well as other forms of media if you like. Short stories are the most popular form but you can do anything really, as long as you have a good idea. Oh and you have to keep a journal that documents all your research, drafts etc. but that isn't marked.

No, you don't have to be top of the class in advanced/extension to do well. Obviously, that would be beneficial but if essays weren't your strong point or something, and you want to do a short story, then it doesn't really effect EX2?

And you have either one on one or small classes with your teacher.

Thankyou so much to everyone!
Everything said here has been very helpful !
I'll definitely keep thinking seriously about extension 2

One last thing though. Did you find it a stressful subject to do or did it all even out of you worked constantly throughout the year?
Thankyou

So far, no it is not that stressful! Most importantly, you will enjoy undertaking this course as it is your idea, concept that you will be working on!

Yup! As long as it reflects a conrete idea, it is fine!
I know a friend, who composed a critique on Harry Potter and achieved 49/50 :)
