I think it would be particularly helpful for top students, who simply need essay ideas and essay marking/feedback. If a student is good enough to understand and incorporate feedback into their essays, then I imagine it would be very helpful.

I think it would also work better if it wasn't so regimented, as traditional tutoring. Rather, you pay $x to somebody a 'period of time' to answer emails quickly, have the odd phone conversation, and mark essays/give feedback.
