I'm considering dropping Chemistry (yes, less than 2 weeks before trials I know) as I really don't have the time to properly learn everything in it, its my worst subject, and most hated subject.

Anyway, I'm just curious as to assumed knowledge... how much assumed knowledge do you really need?

1 of the Uni courses I'm considering next year states:
Assumed knowledge: at least 2 of Bio/Chem/2UMaths/Physics

I do and enjoy bio. If I did Chem for Yr 11 and most of yr 12, and same with Mathematics, would that get me through? I can always do a summer school, but basically SHOULD I DROP CHEMISTRY? I don't want to make a mistake that means tons of extra catch up work after the HSC but I'm absolutely loathing it at the moment :p

Btw I'm wanting to do animal-related studies (think: RSPCA welfare type work) so courses like BZoology UNE, BSc (Animal Science) UWS and BNatSc (Animal Science) are ones I'm looking into :)

put up the actual uni course

if its medical based, or a bachelor of science you will probably need it, for engineering it is useful to know but not 100% necessary. However, your subjects dont look like you are not going to be doing engineering or science, so dont worry about dropping chem, it wont make much difference

B Zoology - approx 73 ATAR
no prerequisites / assumed knowledge that I know of
Bachelor of Zoology - UNE - Course and Unit Catalogue 2010

B Science (Animal Science) - approx ATAR
"Assumed Knowledge
At least two of the following subjects – Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics."
UWS: Bachelor of Science - Animal Science

B Natural Science (Animal Science) - approx 70 ATAR
no prerequisites / assumed knowledge that I know of
UWS: Bachelor of Natural Science - Animal Science

From what I can find in the BSc (An.Sc) course outline, which has Chem1 in first year study, I would be advantaged in understanding...

"This unit provides a broad introduction to the fundamental principles common to all branches of chemistry. The unit is intended to serve the needs not only of chemistry majors, but also those intending to specialise in other related disciplines. The unit focuses on scientific notation, nomenclature, chemical equations, stoichiometry, the mole concept, atomic structure, periodicity, electronic configuration, structure and bonding, states of matter, intermolecular forces, properties of solutions, chemical thermodynamics, chemical equilibria, and electrochemistry."

... by doing HSC chemistry

Wait so I shouldn't be worried about dropping it? Or I should keep it? In your opinion.. :)

Cool, thanks for your help :) Of course all my friends are trying to convince me not to since we're in the same class, but an outside opinion's really helped.
