*bump*. Can someone please explain the role of Tracheids? What are they?

In some diagrams, LS xylem appears to be spirally is that them? What is the 'vessel' next to it then in the diagrams above?

thanks

i am also a little confused as whether tracheids are on the side of the vessel.. or actually make up the vessel.

the hsc adviser told me that tracheids are a spirally structure that can be seen on longitudinal sections of Xylem, and they provide structural support for the xylem vessel.
