Thoughts?

Love the increased mathematical rigour, incorporation of thermodynamics.

But, some very interesting 'political' statements coming out of the syllabus such as 'will decrease the number of physics students and hence will address the shortage of physics teachers' basically meaning that it is intended that some schools may not be able to offer Physics anymore..

Interesting.

Haha.

A very senior BOSTES rep basically said the idea is to make Physics more difficult --> will decrease the number of students taking physics but also attract back the talented students playing the ATAR game and pursuing HSIE subjects (but overall decrease in candidature) --> due to decreased candidature will eliminate the problem regarding shortage of Physics teachers.

But then a problem arises for remote students who travel great distances to go to school, if only 2 students currently do physics, syllabus change scares those 2 away, then school stops offering Physics.

:/

Also, for those schools that do get only a handful of students doing Physics, subject may not run, which means those students may look into changing schools, especially if they are talented and motivated.

I know many principals that would let physics / chemistry run with only 2-3 students as offering those subjects generally attracts higher achieving students, so without those subjects being offered, then those schools will no longer attract said students :/

It's all very convoluted.
