Are there any benefits, career wise, of doing a double degree with commerce besides law, so com/arts, com/sci? That is besides the 'rounded' educational experience etc etc

Ive heard that comm/arts students sometimes get a bonus one off payment from their employers when they start as grads as compensation for the extra studying, work experience and life experience that theyve accumulated in the extra 2 years of uni. Is this true?

Do they have more chance of progressing faster because they are older and may have more experience?

Someone at uni for 3 years vs someone at uni for 5 ... I mean you're still looking at an inexperienced undergrad.

maybe it helps but I cannot see anyone going weak at the knees over someone for that reason alone.

Life experience is more often gained outside uni. It's only such an issue for fresh grads because it's so rare to find it and so it's used as something to distinguish between them.

yep. if there are 2 things you want to learn about, then do the double.

if you just want to learn about one thing, eg mathematics, and you decide to do a double degree instead in mathematics/commerce so that you have a backup or you will have more skills, you will actually be reducing your mathematics learning as you will spend less time learning about your real interest, mathematics, and more time studying and learning about your backup, commerce.

so only do a double if you are torn between 2 subjects
