Hey

Im doing a double degree in adv sci/ engineering and am confused about the following:

In the course rules they state 'Where offered in a particular major, students must take higher versions of courses. Any variation to this must be approved by the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) or nominee'.

Does that mean that when offered a choice between MATH1131 and MATH1141 (higher) I should choose the higher one?:spzz::cry:

Yes you must do MATH1141 (OR have approval not do from the Dean)

You're doing advanced science so makes sense to do higher courses

Is that only if you are majoring in mathematics?
Doesn't matter what you are majoring in you must take the higher course options

If you were majoring in mathematics and wanted to take a chemistry elective you must do MATH1141 and CHEM1031 (Higher Chemistry 1A) and vice versa if you were majoring in chemistry you would need to do CHEM1031 and MATH1141

Does it make sense if you're doing advanced science and you're only doing regular subjects. It's not really fair to your peers

oh hang on, is this the degree you're enrolled in? http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2016/3762.html

i.e.
Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours)
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

it's important that it's the correct one

Then it says in the 2016 handbook that:

9. When offered in a particular major, students must take higher versions of any Level II or Level III courses. Any variation to this must be approved by the Associate Dean (Academic Programs) or nominee.
MATH1131/41 is a Level I course. So you can select MATH1131 without any issues.
