Never. But then, I had a better dress sense than my last guy (not to sound full of myself or whatever, he just really has no clue about clothes). His wardrobe was pretty questionable, but I never tried to make him dress differently. His dress sense is part of who he is, and I wouldn't try to change it by telling him how to dress.
If we'd stayed together perhaps I would have given him some nice clothes as a gift or something, and then he could have worn them if he wanted... but I wouldn't make him change.

my boyfriend has said "i like what you wear, its classy but sometimes i wish you'd dress like a bimbo" once. Wasn't much afterwards...

I come with when he goes out and buys clothes, so i do have some input in it lol.

I've never had any trouble with them being too controlling about it, but I certainly found that my then-girlfriend was very handy to have around if I was unsure about whether or not something suited me. Good fashion advice.

Haha, my BF will occasionally ask advice, but is generally pretty adverse to 'trends'

Hes a bit of an asshole when it comes to me. I'll spend ages and ages getting ready to go out, and everyone will compliment me EXCEPT for him :(

nup, he's never really said anything. i know he's quite observant, though... and he has said that he likes that i don't wear stuff that is too low cut (or low cut at all).

and it's nice when he wears a shirt coz i find it sexy :D (not that he doesn't like it as well, but you get what i mean)

I used to try to dress my ex and i didnt realise but it really bothered him. After we discussed it, I realised why and felt like a jerk.
So i stopped. Or tried very hard to. I did it much less anyway.

my ex, just before we broke up told me one of my "faults" was my dress sense, by which he mean that he hated the way i wore singlet/tank tops and jeans most of the time (this was summer mind you...and i only own a couple of skirts, and dont wear them much caus i dont really like my legs)
that pissed me off badly...but luckily that was the only time its happened
my current bf just says "you look good in that top", nothing negative..thank god

I've never had any trouble with that kind of thing.. I mean sometimes if we are going somewhere special to celebrate something he will tell me to wear what i wore the first night we got together, but other than that there's no controlling of anything. My boyfriend is a perfectionist so he doesnt walk around in old rags.. not even when he's at home doing nothing. He looks good so i have no problems :)

I would give suggestions, but that is all.

I'd much prefer it if she didn't have ANY dress sense whatsover. That is, I'd much prefer it if she wasn't wearing anything at all.

i'm constantly trying to get my boyfriend to wear skinny jeans, but other than that i don't think i'm too controlling of his dress sense. we will often say to the other 'oh wear that top, i like it' or whatever, but that's not really controlling, it's just nice to see the person you like wearing something the look good in.

i dont see your partner telling you how to dress as a problem. and i also dont see having bad dress sense as a problem. infact, that works to your advantage. if your boyfriend has shatty dress sense, other women arent going to look at him, so therefore he'll be yours forever and ever and ever. id like it that way, except my boyfriend has good dress sense. *damn.*
