Hmm i disagree, I find the theory very interesting and relevant. A lot of things I have learnt in the theory I have been able to implement into my own programs, so maybe your teacher is teaching you differently or something, I don't know. All I know is our teacher is like a god on the subject and tells us everything we need to know and more. Our SDD trial was last week, it was easy but haven't got results back. My major project hasn't been marked either but I'm coming about 4th in the class (i go to a selective high school) and I think it's a pretty easy subject, way easier than something like chemistry of 4unit (both of which i do as well).
So yeah I like it. Oh well if anything good luck in your trials

It sort of sucks! Too much content to remember and all other little bits and pieces of information attached to it.

SDD is a good subject. It's interesting, relatively easy to score well in and is a high scaling subject. :)

That being said, my teacher is really good, she's pretty much an expert at anything computer(/geek) related.
Are you sure SDD is a high scaling subject? I hope so! SDD is OK in the year 11 prelim course... hope it's not that much harder in the HSC course!

I'm disappointed to say SDD really gives a bad impression of what computing can actually be like. I found it really dry in high school but in uni its actually a lot more meaningful

SDD sucks, hardly get time to go on the computer :(
All we do is read the textbook :(

I'm probably going to do SDD next year :)

Yep, but we actually were able to use the computers more in Year 11 than this year in Year 12! lol

I think cause we had exercises to do using VB last year......while this year, it was all about making your own notes.

cos our teacher isnt too great, we always just go on the computers anyway. not necesarilly to do software stuff, but to waste time... anyway, classes are over now. yay for learning the whole course off the textbook!! lol

That's basically what my class had to do....but the rest of my class don't even care anyway and aren't even bothered to study for this subject....they just picked this class to play games on the net and watch videos.

omg i know exactly what you mean.

i accidently started a tetris revolution at my school in year 10 (i had it on my usb and everyone else copied it off or just found it on the internet) and 2 of the girls (there are only 6 of us) do nothing but play it all lesson and go on msn and talk and play music and listen to music and make silly comments... its quite frustrating.

Cool!
Yeah, I really hate it....I'm practically the only one in the class that actually cares about this subject. I'm the only one that does the work unlike everyone else in my class who even shares their porn videos with each other....

And then what sucks even more is someone that doesn't do anything in class and then ends up coming 1st in this subject making me 2nd now....:(

yeh im second too, but the girl whos coming first deserves it. She may not do much in class, but she really studies for it, so im ok with that.

But for one of our assessment tasks, we had to pick to make a program that
1. converted numbers from binary to decimal and vice versa
2. Was a english/other language word converter (only needed about 5 words)
3. a program that calculated area for a few shapes

so i chose the binary decimal one and everyone else picked the other ones, and everyones worked and stuff, but i ended up with 5th/6 because mine wasnt as pretty and it didn't have excessive documentation. For every programming assessment task we have to keep a progress diary and stuff for some reason. Anyway, All the other girls just copied their programs pretty much straight out of the book cos we'd done stuff similar before, but i did mine from scratch and i felt kinda cheated cos id put way more work into mine than them... it allways seems to be that way... except for my major :D

anyway, enuf venting lol

It seems pretty unfair. Did you tell your teacher.

nah cos i knew i wasn't gonna get any more marks off him...
anyway, it helped me with my major cos i majorly overdid the documentation and it payed off big time :D

i did grumble about it being more difficult, but he just reminded me that we had the choice... but it seems silly to pick something you could do in about 5 minutes literally so i chose something that would challenge me... anyway...

hey! you did my exact subjects in year 11 and i dropped chem in yr 12 and picked up 4 unit... weird lol

I'm not sure if I'm going to drop chem or SDD considering 1st and 3rd respectively. I'm not picking up 4unit for sure. What do you think, is the YR 12 SDD course worth going for.

well... in chem they havent really learnt anything new since last year axcept titration, but in software its pretty much the same too, just a bit more advanced.

it all depends on if your software teacher is a good teacher (which most arnt) and if you have the drive to learn it on your own with the aid of a good text book (sam davis). If its going to help you in uni, i suggest you do it. I personally love software even tho my classes are crap cos its my fun subject. Keeps me sane, and i love programming cos is so satisfying so...

it all comes down to you and how you feel about the subjects and how its gonna affect your future. Hope this helps lol. theres no yes/no answer from me.
