Hey ppl,
I found out that I'm gonna have to do Standard English. Does this mean my life is screwed?
I mean, who's going to want to employ someone who did Standard English?
I cant believe my whole life is going to be ruined
I shall start the session of re-motivation by saying that few people of my school Duxes have been English (Standard) students. That still does not convince you? How about this: My school Duxes (including 2nd and/or 3rd Duxes get over 99 UAI, actually well above 99). Still not enough force to open up your eyes and activate your nerves to make you jump on the bed for joy? How about this: 2004 Dux of my school received 99.90 UAI and successfully guaranteed his entry into the Medicine. He was an accelerant for Mathematics and Mathematics Extension 1 in 2003. In 2003, he came first in the state for Mathematics and 98/99 in Mathematics Extension 1 (49/50). I need to remind you that his awesome 100 scaled mark from Mathematics did not count towards his UAI as he undertook Mathematics Extension 2 in 2004. In 2004, he came first in the state for Physics (OMG, what a freak!)
In summary, he got Band 6s in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics Extension 1 (2003), Mathematics Extension 2 and Spanish Beginners (this didn't count towards his UAI). He apparently received mid-Band 5 in English (Standard). Despite that, he still achieved 99.90 UAI and shaked his hand with Education Minister at that time (Dr. Nelson).
In 2007 (recent one), 2nd Dux of my school got 99.45 UAI. He was also an accelerant for Mathematics and Mathematics Extension 1. He came top 5 in the state for Mathematics but this did not count towards his UAI so let's take fact aside for a minute. Apart from his accelerant subject, he did not receive any state ranks but he still achieved 99.45 UAI without Band 6 in English (Standard). He also achieved mid-80 in English (Standard).
In conclusion, doing English (Standard) will not screw your life over!!! Don't worry about it. As long as you perform well in other subjects, you road to 99+ UAI will be a silk road.
