Mate, if you think it's a good idea then you have no idea. Draw up a business plan first and figure out the money you need.

A computer store is a low-margin business. You have lots of competition that will sell inferior goods at ultra-low margins and force you to do the same. Be prepared to work very long hours as you do any time you run your own business. Be prepared to have initial capital to start ordering from suppliers. Be prepared not to get your initial capital back after a while!

Selling hardware now is a big no no unless you got something people want that is cheap and you can get it cheap.

do it the ... or ellipses's way:

go trash all the computer hardware factory and nick the stuff as many as u can...

then sell them for the price of peanuts..

if u still can't get business from that...i'll gladly buy them off u :D

warning:
the above statement was purly for humor, if reader decided to follow the action, the composer will not have any legal responsibility.

Well business plans arent exactly the hardest thing to write...heres what you should write about:

  • THE INDUSTRY, THE COMPANY, AND ITS PRODUCTS
    - The Industry
    - The Company
    - The Product or Service
  • MARKET RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
    - Customers
    - Market Size and Trends
    - Competition
    - Market Share and Sales
  • MARKETING PLAN
    - Overall Market Strategy
    - Pricing
    - Sales Tactics
    - Advertising and Promotion
  • OPERATING PLAN
    - Location
    - Facilities and Improvements
    - Strategy and Plans
    - Labor Force
  • MANAGEMENT TEAM
    - Organization
    - Key Personnel
    - Management Compensation and Ownership
    - Board of Directors
  • THE FINANCIAL PLAN
    - Sources and Uses of Funds
    - Pro Forma Cash Flow Analysis
    - Profit and Loss Forecasts
    - Pro Forma Balance Sheets

although it might take you a while to write all that up. Thats basically the main elements a good business plan should have

sheesh...
ok. starting a business is no biggie..
its what you want to do with the business.
If you want to sell systems to ppl who are uneducated on prices, you could get an abn, sign up as a dealer at some wholesaler, order parts, put together, sell for price + 20% and u b good.
prob is you need money up front.
next is you need regular business..
hosting is good because allthough u b outa of pocket for a while, if you get around 10 people on your servers, its all paying itself off, any more people is profit (until u need more server room)

it all depends on the scope of the businesss...
how much time you want it to take from your life..
work out a few things 1st..

what field in "computers" are you looking at?
