I bought $16 worth of credit for Skype the other day - no regrets it's heaps good. The only bad thing is that you can't call 132 or 131 numbers - they're heaps expensive (no idea why).

We've called over 20 mins of STD and its cost bout 37 cents so far. I know there are cheaper ones out there, but i'm happy with SKYPE at the moment.

Used VoIP since last Sept.
An actual VoIP service.

Uses a standard phone handset - little to no difference in call quality and a fuckton cheaper than using the normal landline.

No min monthly spend
10c untimed in my local call area (Wollongong) and to any state capital.
5c/min to anywhere else in AU (also USA, NZ, UK, Canada, plus some others)
29c/min to mobiles
Free calls to my gf who's also on iiNetPhone.

Total call time: 858:08 (to landlines, mobiles, other iinet voip services, the USA)
Total cost: $28.39

ftw!

We have VO-IP at my house, its an actual VO-IP provider that provides it.. We pay 10cents outright for STD and local calls (includes mobiles) and then its 10c/minute for international calls.

ftw!
iinet is actually the worst VOIP provider i've ever come across (cost wise).

-Engin offers 10 cents untimed to anywhere in Australia (Which is still expensive, seeing as the companies buy rates whole sale at around 6 cents for a 3 hour block (and who chats for longer than 3 hours?))

-Skype is 2.7 cents a min to anywhere in Australia, 23 cents to mobiles and free to other skype users.

It's clear from me reading Iinets prices page that they have crafted their whole system around the idea of "making a profit", which all business do, but at least other business include SOME good things which make it less obvious.

no, just a normal microphone and a set of speakers.

I bought $16 worth of credit. We have used it heaps and its at $13.22 now.

The shit thing is that on the 17/Jan/2007, they will be introducing a flag fee (cost just to connect you) - which means i will be switching over to WengoPhone, which is already cheaper.
thanks for the info

how much is the flag fee?

They haven't released the figures, but it will vary between Eu 0.00 to Eu 0.039

It won't make it worth while for normal phone calls. But you can still use it to chat to other skype users for free.
okay cool

thanks
