Is extension 2 maths necessary for engineering/science/actuarial/math degrees or is it possible to do well in them with just extension 1 maths. Also in what ways does extension 2 help you with the degrees? Is it specific content which is learnt or is it the skills and ways of thinking which you get from 4u math?

Also can a person do a math degree with 3u math or is it recommended they do 4u?

Recommended you do 4u. Though it is not necessary it will make your life so much easier if you did. However, you will not miss out on anything if you chose to stick with 3u.

can a person who does 3u still do as well as a person who does 4u on those degrees or will there always be that disadvantage?

of course they'll be at a disadvantage

A maths intensive degree or one that requires mathematical thinking or problem solving requires the most maths possible
