Yeah - I can't imagine Mathematics Extension 2 with multiple choice - that is just wrong.
That'd actually be pretty funny. :p

What i heard is that they are taking out conics for DEs in 4unit in 2009 and putting in statistics in 2010.
Is this true? because they have a draft syllabus stating that DEs will be put into the 4unit syllabus in place of conics but don't state when.
i'm not quite sure mate, its in the syllabus development thread for beauty math etc. section.

i can't blieve theyre dumbing down the course. i enjoy crying over q8's in post 2000 and crying over q5onwards in pre 2000 papers.

probably thought 'nah this is too hard' then dumbed it down? i don't know.

i admire those that topped pre 2000 papers, they would have been fucking nuts.

they're making hsc maths multiple choice because high school is all about preparing you for real life & tertiary studies

when you're faced with a tough problem requiring clever use of analytical skills in real life, e.g. in the workforce,
your boss will always prepare the completed task for you in advance, and then make you choose between it and 4 other confusingly similar options

or when you do honours in maths at uni, the faculty will write 5 theses for you, and you'll need to carefully select the one that isn't bullshit so you can get your degree

edit: this is in reply to 'why do you think they made it easier?'

Probably just part of the whole 'standards referenced' thing, i.e. New HSC. In general New HSC lifted marks everywhere.

Maths is something i dont have a passion, nor a hatred of. Over the many years of doing it ive become used to it and just see it as a normal part of schooling life, but on that note its one of the more interesting subjects and as I enjoy a challenge its quite good. So to a degree i like maths as its one of the subjects i do my homework for first
