Are we required to know what a single-phase motor and a three-phase motor is?
Also, are we supposed to know what a synchoronous motor is?

Help!

hmm...i just remembered, you will definitely need to know the triple phase motor.

the single phase motor is just the simple ac motor [with slip rings]

not sure about synchronous motors

That bit confuses me too. It really doesnt say exactly what sort of ac motor it wants you to know...
But if you know it - and it comes up - then you won't have to worry.

Yeh, the single-phase is a common ac motor, your right :)

that website has said the same thing about the twins paradox [that it wasnt examinable] and evidence for time dilation, but it has been part of the syllabus and been in questions over the years.

up to you to be on the safe side...

Hey all, I called up the HSC advice line regarding the site http://webs.mn.catholic.edu.au/physics/emery/hsc_motors.htm#physio

Ok For Space

* You won't be asked a stand alone question on Twin Paradox, Evidence of Time Dilation (know it just to broaden ur understanding), Future space travel and Four Dimensional space time. So learn a lil bit about them if you have the time.

For M&G:
* You need to know how an single-phase AC motor operates. I.e. the stator, magnetic field.
You do NOT have to know its uses in society, the advantages and disadvantages of using the motor.
Also no need to know what synchronous, commutator or universal motors are.

Ok hope that cleared a few things up. Please don't kill me if I get it wrong... I am just telling you what the teacher told me.
Good luck people not long now!
