I was wondering whether internal assessments count towards our ATAR?

If so, does that mean only our external HSC is the one that counts??

Your school's assessment tasks contribute in total 50% to your final marks and yes they do count towards your ATAR which uses the final HSC mark not just the exam.

nope. this is correct for all NON VET subjects...however for VET subjects like this one VET IT...only the end of yr 12 HSC examination is counted...everything else is just school based (for school ranks) and competency tasks.

This is correct! Although you can choose not to do the HSC examination but most schools will automatically enroll you for the exam unless you tell them otherwise.

dude, they count a hell of a lot. but it's not so much your internal mark overall, it's more your rank. like... say in your school you come 5th internal but in the external exam you're 1st in your school, half of the mark goes to you, the other half goes to the person who came 1st internal, even if they did shit in the exam. fucken board of studies

You are of course correct and I stupidly forgot that IT is a VET subject and confused it with the other computer courses.

For VET courses only the final exam counts to the ATAR. For all non-VET subjects school based assessments count 50% of the final mark.

This might be a stupid question, but the trial paper that we do for IT does that count as our internal mark for IT? As I do IT at TAFE. Or does the HSC IT Exam count for both our internal and external mark?

They will base off the highest exam mark and adjust the internal marks accordingly, hence why your ranks are so crucial. It is not the school marks itself that will be counted, they're just there to determine each person's ranking.

Digging threads here but just wanted to add.

Aysce is wrong, as this only for non-VET subjects, and as stated before IT is a VET subject so the HSC exam WILL COUNT 100% to your mark. FORGET every other assessment that you did, that only counts as COMPETENCY. HOWEVER the Tafe does send in another mark, which is usually your Trial Mark, this will be used to calculate your final HSC mark(100% of the trial for 100% of the hsc mark) IF you could not attend the exam due to say...a really bad illness or you got into a accident on your way to the exam. Otherwise the HSC counts for 100%!
