Do employers still accept resumes? (1 Viewer)

I’ve asked this question before in whirlpool forums, but i got alot of passive aggressive answers but my question is that would there be a chance that my resume that i handed to Officeworks has been “binned” because they aren’t hiring but will later on for christmas casuals. Also did i make the wise decision to hand in a resume early, also would they accept someone who is about to graduate high school?

I'd say smaller places which don't run large scale recruitment campaigns would probably still use them, but larger organisations may have a formal process to ensure consistency/fairness/etc (and be able to demonstrate that they didn't discriminate/etc) and these often rely on web forms, online testing, etc...

In my organisation I don't think we ask for CVs for the roles which have recruitment campaigns (e.g. graduates, interns, etc) but for skilled/lateral hires then the CV usually comes through a recruiter (either internal or external) and is still used to assess whether it's even worth considering interviewing someone.

The issue is my local Officeworks seemingly doesnt advertise online, they ask that i leave a resume to them, but im afraid that they “binned” it although i’ve seen on glassdoor some people have handed in that, also im only looking to team member positions not anything that requires me to be qualified.

Usually depends on the turnover rate - there are periods of times where they just don't need employees since none of the current employees are leaving. It also depends on your availabilities - uni students (the ones who tend to work there) have more availabilities and unless you can match that, sometimes they don't bother with the process.

Also, bigger corporations usually conduct group interviews so they tend to only hire during a period of time.

Well I did list my availabilities to them, like max i could do in a week is 25 hours, but the issue here is I’m worried what if they binned the resume, I mean I did get into contact with another store and they told me it depends on how they want to hire.

I am also aware that yes Officeworks is a large Australian company, but because of that i feel they will most likely want online candidates unlike me who made the effort to have myself shown, so they would know who I am, but this is despite the fact that I have read on glassdoor that there were former employees who like me, handed a resume and succeeded.

Btw thank you for your level-headed answer, because at Whirlpool forums there was just passive agressiveness. Also were you an employee or are one now at this time?

I think it's possible that they did bin your resume but you should keep trying nonetheless - I think handing it in person shows alot more commitment but ofc you can also apply online too.

If they don't advertise online, then this is probably the best thing to do. Another great thing is to try and get to know someone in the company - i've found in the past that people love it if you know someone who has worker or is working there.

I agree, knowing someone is, unfortunately, a massive help in getting into a company.
