Ummm...I don't know whether any of you 04'ers know this (and come to think of it, why would you?), but the Ancient History syllabus was changed - from 05 onwards, all AH students have to study a core unit, Cities of Vesuvius: Pompeii and Herculaneum. I guess those pen - pushers at the BOS wanted to bring the Ancient syllabus more in line with Modern (hopefully the introduction of a core will have a positive effect on the scaling of this course!)...and I suppose it IS good in the sense that the answers to the core questions will provide a benchmark, making it easier to compare candidates (this is impossible with the current syllabus, and according to the BOS documents, many teachers were raising concerns that certain societies/periods/personalities were easier/had more scholarship than others, and therefore students studying certain combinations of topics were likely to be unfairly advantaged/disadvantaged). Anyway, wouldn't it be worthwhile introducing a subforum for this topic, seeing as everyone has to do it? As for any other divisions of this forum, like Silvermoon, I just don't think there's enough posts to warrant it...everything's pretty easy to find as it is, because this is a relatively low - traffic board. But if we HAD to divide it, I think societies is the best way to go...after all, isn't that how the syllabus is organised? And I reckon we definitely need a mod...I nominate Magister! She's got a Masters in AH, has been teaching it for something like 20/25 years (many of these at Sefton Selective High), and, as you'll see if you check out her posts, is full of answers to all those tricky questions, can give you exhaustive lists of useful sources and quotes, and has piles and piles of notes that she may be able to post up. What's more, we'll know that any answer she gives is DEFINITELY the right one...who better to answer our questions about AH than an Ancient History specialist with almost three decades of experience behind her? We don't want it to be 'the blind leading the blind' on this forum (or any other forum, for that matter), do we? Gosh, with all my gushing, you probably think I'm her alter - ego or something, but I'm NOT. I'm sure there are plenty of other AH students who can attest to her kindness, helpfulness and generosity with resources ---> I'm looking at you, Angelduck
