Dissolution of CuCl2.2H20 (1 Viewer)

we have CuCl2.2H20

we add 10ml of water

i need to write an ionic equation, how do i start out???

is it just

CuCl2.2H20 (s) -> CuCl2 (aq) + H20 (l)


or you have to putt

CuCl2.2H20 (aq) +H20(l) -> CuCl2 (aq) + H20 (l)

For an full ionic equation. aq stuff must be written out as ions.
I.e.
CuCl2(aq) becomes Cu2+ + 2Cl-

CuCl2.2H2O is a solid but when it ionises in water, the H2O disappears as it is dissolved (water dissolves in water it doesnt need to be included in the equation) thus your dissocation equation should be:

CuCl2.2H2O(s) -------> Cu2+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq)

what about the problem that it is not balanced? i.e no h20 on the other side

yea good thing u reminded me
CuCl2.2H2O is a solid has water as part of its formula but it does not need to included in the dissocation equation (asked a chemist on this one so i guess it should be right)

hence, CuCl2(aq) -----> Cu2+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq)
