I honestly don't know how to react to death. if the person was close to me, naturally I'm fricken upset. But death on the news all seems like just numbers to me, i know that is sad but it's how i feel. Whether it’s 1 p plater dead in a car accident, 100's of people slaughtered in Syria, tens of thousands of people dead from famine in the horn of Africa, or when people talk about the millions who died in the world wars. how are you meant to react at all when its so prevalent and no one else seems to give a shit either?

However, it's not necessarily about 'caring'. Do you think your reaction is different when you read/hear a news article about a person who died in circumstances you are fairly apathetic to, and you realise the subject of the story is fat vis a vis a healthy subject?

it's almost never enforced, being left almost entirely up to the discretion of police officers who, shock horror, don't seem to use it all that often.
