So i deactivated facebook today...
Not exactly for the hsc ( because i needed to get some stuff out of my mind) but i guess its better for me cuz i would check Facebook every 5 minutes ( i obsess about things LIKE OCD), even though i had hardly any freinds =-=. Is anyone else deactivating for the hsc or other reasons and if so why ?

just use a program which blocks you from going on the website for an hour or so, then check facebook for 10 minutes or so, then do it again..

You're gonna find other ways to procrastinate until you can learn to control yourself

facebook is pretty easy to control

just try not to stay on chat when you have a lot of work you have to complete and don't feel the need to post statuses every two seconds.

Just allocate time for your social life/fun. Whether that be games, sports, going out, checking fb.

I personally don't overly use fb I'll check it once a day but only for a minute or so. Set yourself a pattern of study (obviously hit it hard, so you can make a strong habit of it) But set time so that you can still enjoy life.

Good. I did it for my HSC and its been worth it. Reactivate it once or twice in your holidays or something, but for most of the time keep it deactivated.

As for me... I'm looking forward to getting it back in 12 days. wooooo

I began by using a program that blocked certain sites but then eventually i was able to control myself so i don't use the program anymore. I like to keep fb because i like to talk to friends every now and then etc

Yeah, those pages are addicting and you can't stop pressing next until you're at the end. But I need it because we have educational groups (like for English) where we talk about our homework and help each other out, etc.

So try deactivating it and see how you go, sometimes it could turn out worse than what you intended.

I've deactivated FB for my HSC, was worthwhile doing tbh. Although I did go on BoS more, at least I was improving my learning at the time :)

mate, this is the internet we're talking about, if facebook doesn't entice you something else will. then you'll try to block off that as well. until.... SUDDENLY there's another thing, which ultimately leads to a cat and mouse game. yeah as everyone else said, learn to control yourself, manage your time and live the best of both worlds.
Otherwise hehehehehe

Personally I don't think it's a help, you'd just find some other way to..

nah this guy said it right:

You're gonna find other ways to procrastinate until you can learn to control yourself

Well like i said, i didn't deactivate for the HSC, But TBH it's taken a load off my mind since i have and i have found it easier to start studying rather than procrastinate.

As stupid as it sounds deactivating facebook is a really smart idea. Before trials I deactivated for a whole of 4 days and then got back on again now I realised HSC is here it has benefited me alot as i now study more and have no distractions from facebook :)

I use the stayfocussed extension for chrome. It lets me choose a list of 'blocked sites' and then a time allowed on those sites per day. I have a total of 30 minutes on Facebook YouTube email etc. You can also do the nuculear option which disables the blocked sites for a certain period of time, say 8 hours when I have to do an assignment on the weekend. Look into it.
