this is a question for past HSCers.
I am going alright in D&T well at least i think i am.
I am confused, is the MDP marked hard. There just doesn't seem to be ne info on past projects and the marks they recieved. I have no idea wether i will get the mark that i am putting into sam as the MDP mark is unpredictable

Please help me:( :(

D&T is not difficult.

However, to score well in your MDP you must have all the designated critieria in your portfolio, and you must have done it well.

The DT markers want to give you full marks, the only thing that stops them is that if all the information they need is there and it is done well.

They arnt Nazis and wont penalise you for doing something differenetly, but remember they are only there for 20 mins so you have to make sure they dont miss your critical points.

Ask your teacher if you can have a peak at the standards packages from 2001-2002-2003 and there are sections for MDP. It shows you the corresponding bands and samples of folios in those subsequent bands

As for unpredictable, it is to a certain extent. I thought I killed the MDP but ended up getting 85 exam mark (combined with test). Luckily my assesment mark of 96 pulled me up.

My personal theory is that they award more marks to people that have "better" projects, in that they are a physical project and have spent heaps of time. I think the webpage projects, videos etc they dont really like. Just a personal opinion

Yeah, what beaky said......plus.....

* Presentation Presentation Presentation........not just with the folio, but even moreso with the setup int the hall, or wherever the markers are marking. The project as a whole has to have a WOW factor, not matter what type of design it is. The last week or two before it is marked should be spent working on the projects presentational layout. Not crucial, but it all adds up.

* Stick by the K.I.S.S rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). The markers arent rocket scientists.
One of my friends did a project on developing a Hydrogen Fuel Cell through Electrolysis. Good Idea i guess, but the folio had size 12/14 font, and first impressions when reading through the folio was "WHOA!"
I didnt hear what he got for his project, but I assume it was not 2 high.

* A little bit, often. Remember that. They will know a 2 month project when they see it.

There just doesn't seem to be ne info on past projects and the marks they recieved. I have no idea wether i will get the mark that i am putting into sam as the MDP mark is unpredictable
Try looking at the 'standards packages'. They have segments from a selection of projects, from Band 2, to Band 6. Extremely good to keep you on track, and give you an insight into exactly what the markers are, and arent looking for.

If you put the work into a project, and then some more, the markers will see it, and reward you.
