CRT TV and oscilloscope dot point (1 Viewer)

Outline the role of:
- electrodes in the electron gun
- the deflection plates or coils
- the fluorescent screen
in the cathode ray tube of conventional TV displays and oscilloscopes.

For the above dot point, is it asking for us to give a general outline on the electrode gun, deflection plates and fluorescent screen? Or do we talk about how these 3 parts are used specifically in CRT TV's AND oscilloscopes? eg. do we have to know that CRT TV's contain 3 electrode guns each shining a different colour?

i think that the dotpint asks for the general roles of each part. however they will be after a certain amount of detail, where you have to describe both the horizontal and vertical deflection plates and the focussing and accelerating anodes. :)
for this particular dotpoint u dont need to explain the roles in both CROs and tvs, but i think there is a dotpoint later on which asks about how a CRO works, then u would have to know what each part does, specifically.

Please note that TV's use magnetic deflection plates while CRO's use electric. This catches alot of people out.

You should know both - how it works and what its used for. They're essentially the same thing anyhow.

Electrodes in the electron gun: The electrodes in the electron gun create the electron beam hitting the phosphor screen. The control electrode determines how many electrons are eventually in the beam (thus controlling the brightness of the image produced), whereas the accelerating and focusing electrode accelerate and focus the unorganised electrons into the fine beam emitted.

Deflection plates or coils: The electric or magnetic field produced by the plate or coils determines where the electron beam will hit the phosphor screen. It does this by exerting a force on the beam of charged particles.

Fluorescent coating: It converts the kinetic energy of the accelerated electron beam into light energy when the two collide. The light produced by this is what is seen on the screen.
