Firstly, can you argue only from one point of view - do you have to agree to the idea that crime fiction is 'conservative genre' or can you argue that it isn't or it is to a certain extent depending on context etc etc
By conservative genre I THINK they mean a genre that does not really change, in other words have the values and attitudes presented in crime fiction been stagnant? Or have the existing conventions and institutions changed with the times. If this is the case, it'll probably be a good idea to select crime fiction texts from a wide range of periods and styles such as Golden Era intuitionist, hard-boiled and contemporary to showcase how the crime fiction genre has evolved over the times, and is therefore not really conservative (say why - due to the changing contexts). Or you could say that it is conservative to a certain extent, as many of the conventions such as justice being served and nature of crime have not changed throughout the texts. However I think the latter would be a lot harder to argue.
