Good to see Katich get a tonne, lets hope he can be in the runs again in the next few tests. Jacques didn't do too well, I wonder what will happen if/when Hayden comes back and Jacques still hasn't fired? Certainly, they can't drop Katich just because Jacques is the incumbent.

Well, MacGill has now annointed Beau Casson as his replacement in the Australian team. I think that is a good call, MacGill is getting old, and losing it. I am sad to see MacGill go in a way. Although I have been calling for him to improve or move, I would have liked to have seen him do better in the baggy green, to get more of a chance at the national level, where he would have been a staple had it not been for the brilliance of Warne.

Looking to the future, I think Casson has talent. He has the potential to blossom into a pretty good all-rounder.

the problem is we don't need an allrounder, we need a specialist who we can call on to get a wicket or a breakthrough if the quicks can't do it. we need a game winner. but i think casson can deliver, give him a year or so.

Binger bowled exceptionally well over night. Then copped a fast one in the jaw.

Should be interesting to see how the Aussies come out on Day 5...whether they bash and crash for quick runs + victory, or draw it out for the draw.
Yeah, Lee was bowling well, although some of the calls were a little dubious, but you get that.

If I was Ponting I would order the remainder of the batsmen to go out and have a quick bash. I think Symonds is on a solid 43 n/o, so provided he can get some support Australia could knock their lead to 400+.

Now Jacques is in the runs, which is good to see, along with Hussey. Chanderpaul made another well compiled century, proving IMO to be the Windies best batsman.

in some ways i am glad macgill retired on his own terms, rather than having the selectors waving the axe over his head. really, his figures in this series sum up his reasons, i doubt anyone would have talked him out of it.

Maybe he was given an ultimatum?

Wow. Australia are awesomely shit.
From looking at the score card, it appears it was a story of starts and no one going on. Symonds got 52, Haddin 32, Jacques 31, Katich 36, and only one real substancial partnership of 87 between Symonds and Haddin.

At 7/226 with Casson and Lee at the wicket 300 is not out of the question, I hope they get it plus more, but circumspectly, I think Australia maybe defending 250-275.

Wow, Johnson 4/41 off 11.5. I have been one of his detractors, but if he can consistantly pull efforts like that, I will change my tune. Casson got carted for 43 off 7, so hopefully he can have a better go of it in the second innings.

Australia were rolled for 251, but then bowled the West Indies out for 216. The tale of the Windies looked like the tale of the Australias, alot of starts, no one really going on to make a century. Chanderpaul was again the mainstay of the Windies innings with 79 not out.

At the moment Australia is 0/35, leading by 70.

Australia are in a strong position now after being bowled out for 251. They always recover somehow.

Cricket got asininely boring for me sometime between last year and this.
Just lacks the depth of other games I suppose...plus Australia's too dominant.

ipl made it boring by taking all the players away from the test matches. a lot of countries have made the ultimatum to the players, its a us or them situation.

nonetheless, brilliant centuries to katich and jaques. i cannot believe the selectors were not going to pick him, just look at his form. it appears nswelshmen are the only ones capable of getting a century over there, while hussey and ponting have batted below par.

Yeah, great stuff by Katich and Jacques, they got starts in the first innings, but didn't capitalise like they did here. Hussey, from his stats does look a little out of sorts, but hopefully he can find some form in the next few tests. Australia now leading by 365, so I think about another 50 then it would be time to declare.

that seems like a great total considering what the wicket was doing and all and the windies getting 200ishh.

whats ur says on hayden coming back in the team? I feel hussey since hes out of form deserves being 'rested'. You cannot possible leave our either jacques or katich seeing those performances!

As tough as that sounds, I have to agree with you. As much as I like Hussey and think he is a great cricketer, when you have two guys playing as well as Katich and Jacques are and a noted performer like Hayden coming back, something's gotta give, and it seems like Hussey at this stage. I think put Katich back to four and let the two noted openers in Hayden and Jacques take on the new ball.
